Very Good Illustration of Proudly Fierce Lion on Front Tan Colored Cover

Attractive and interesting 19th century American almanac from distributed by the brothers Clark who were "Operative Chemists" in Cleveland. the ad for their "Anti-Bilious Compound" on back cover. Back cover is also the mailing cover and it has the name and address of the recipient of this almanac along with the original one cent stamp showing bust of Benjamin Franklin still attached (cancelled). Front cover has illustration of a marvelously proud and fierce lion who looks defiantly to the left. Title of the almanac at top and bottom of this cover with date of 1875 bold. This booklet is holed at upper left corner and string placed through this hole for hanging the almanac apparently. String is still present. Calendars of the 12 months of 1875 and articles of medical interest are the contents. Just a few traces of brown age spots internally. Front cover is lightly worn at the edges and outside corners but otherwise still in nice condition. Some darkening of the tan colored paper of the cover. Back cover with a couple moderate chips at the edges but quite well preserved as well. Almanac comes in plastic holder with backing. Illustrated Wraps Octavo

Distributed free of charge to sell Jayne's medicines described within. 1850 and 1869 almanacs nearly complete. 1850 alamanac (w/ 1848 cover copyright) in much better condition. Includes calendar for each month w/ astrological signs, lengthy caltalogue of diseases & remedies w/ small text woodcuts. Dr. Jayne states "Medical advice is always given gratuitously to all who apply personally at my office" but he discourages letters. Diseases include abortions, Asiatic cholera, fits, convulsions, syphilis, cancers, gout, neuralgia, heart disease, bronchitis, eruptions, inflammation of the lungs & heart, white leg, dyspepsia, scrofula, tape worm, Jayne's alterative for King's Evil, White Swellings, Ulcers, Rheumatism, Scurvy, Gout, Neuralgia, Enlargement of Bones, joints, Glands,Female Diseases, Constitutional Disorders, Cancerous Tumours, Liver Complaints, Skin Diseases, etc. (all cured by this single prepapration!), also treatments for malignant erysipelas, women's diseases, skin diseases, bowel problems, rheumatism, fevers, muscle spasms, worms, dandruff, melancholy from mania, much more. All of these can be cured by extremely well described pills, expectorants, tonics, balsams, sasparilla, sanative pills, hair tonic, hair dye (Jayne's American Hair Dye w/ directions), all remedies manufactured & sold by Dr. Jayne.
