From the foreword: "It is as a contribution to the discussion of the Population Question that we issue this report of the prosecution against ourselves for publishing Dr. Charles Knowlton's pamphlet, entitled 'Fruits of Philosophy. [...]'." Knowlton's book was one of the first reports worldwide on birth control!!! The trial took place on June 18th of 1877 in the Queen's Bench Division, High Court of Justice
