xii,136 pp. + plates Conder was a British architect invited to Japan by the Meiji government to aid in its westernization. He taught architecture at the Imperial College of Japan and after retirement from this position remained in Japan in private practice. He was enormously influential in the architectural westernization of Japan and taught the most prominent architects of the era. This book was the first introduction for western readers to the art and philosophy of Japanese Flower arranging. Illustrated with 14 original colour prints and 40 outline black and white plates. This is a non-circulating ex-lirbary copy rebound in sturdy brown buckram. All plates are present although several of the tissue guards are missing and the first few pages are bound into the rear of the book.
