Binding tight, illustrated maps on endpapers. Not dated or numbered, with a gift inscription on the front blank from mother to son dated Jan. 5, 1912. An information-packed little book covering the geographic, historical and literary development of Europe, the changes through the Middle Ages, the Wellington and Napoleonic times, the Franco-Prussian War, maps covering the great battles of the world, maps relating to English literature, great monasteries and religious houses, industries, agricultural districts, railroads, outline maps representing Medieval and Revolutionary Paris, London as it was rebuilt after the Fire and up to the end of the eighteenth century. A small scale map of the legendary Arthurian regions appears for the first time in an atlas here.
