Extremely rare set of loose prints, intended to illustrate the instructive children's picture book: <I>Het Nuttige Prentenboek, waarin De Spelende Jeugd, door fraaije platen en bijschriften en onderhoudende vertellingen, geleid wordt tot opmerken en nadenken Over Allerlei Dingen Uit het Dierenrijk, de Plantenwereld, het Delfstoffelijke en de bewerktuigde Natuur, En hoe de menschen dat alles tot hun nut, gemak en voordeel weten aan te wenden</I>. In the book the lithographs were bound in between the text as double-page plates, but they were also sold separately, both as sets and individually. Here all prints are unfolded, and without any trace of earlier binding. Present here are 22 of the original 25 instructive prints, attractively depicting the use of all sorts of natural resources, including production processes, scientific and technical devices, resulting products, etc., all prints nicely and carefully coloured by hand, and here arranged alphabetically as follows: <B>a. BOEKDRUKKERIJ</B>. Depicting the work in a printing office, with a view of a printing office in centre and numerous illustrations relating to the process of printing, all nicely coloured by hand. <B>b. DRIE RIJKEN DER NATURE, DE-</B>. With six rows of illustrations, depicting the "Three Realms of Nature", the first three devoted to the animal world, the next two to the vegetable world, and the last row devoted to the mineral world of nature, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>c. GLAS EN AARDEWERK</B>. Depicting a china factory in centre and numerous illustrations around it, showing the tools and products of the manufacture of glass and porcelain, including a view of a potter's workshop and a lime-kiln, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>d. HENNEP EN VLAS EN WAT ER ZOOAL VAN VOORTKOMT</B>. With a large view in centre of a hemp- and flax-field, surrounded by numerous illustrations of the processing of hemp and flax and the various products made from it, like a ropery, a linen-weaver's shop, etc. all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>e. HOUT, HET-</B>. With numerous illustrations of wood-working shops and their wooden products, like a carpenter's, a wooden shoe maker's, a cartwright's, a cooper's, etc., all with titles and finely coloured. <B>f. KOORN, HET-</B>. With a large central view of a farmer's family resting during the harvest of corn, surrounded by numerous illustrations of the processing of corn and the various corn products, including a birthday cake at a children's party, all with titles and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>g. LICHT EN DE KLEUREN, HET-</B>. Depicting the colour spectrum over the whole height of the sheet with illustrations along both sides in corresponding colours, all with titles underneath and all finely coloured by hand. <B>h. MUNTEN, MATEN EN GEWIGTEN</B>. With a large central illustration of a grocery store and numerous illustrations relating to coins, measures and weights nicely arranged around it, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>i. NATUURKUNDE</B>. Depicting scientific phenomena and experiments, like electricity, magnetism, the magic lantern, the refraction of light by glass and by liquids, gravitation, distilling, etc., all with titles underneath, and all nicely coloured by hand. <B>j. NEDERLANDS ZEE- EN LANDMAGT</B>. With two central illustrations, one of a sea-battle and the other of a battle of the cavalry, surrounded by numerous illustrations of the uniforms of the Dutch Navy and Army, including some fine views of warships, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>k. PAARD, HET</B>-. With a fine large view of horses in centre and numerous illustrations of horse's use and its possible functions, like horses in the circus, at the races, drawing a carriage or tugging a barge, plowing, etc., as well as horse products, like bone-glue, game chips and marbles of horse's bone, leather products, horse's hair for violin bows, etc., all with titles underneath, and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>l. PAPIER, HET-</B>. Depicting a paper-mill in centre, with numerous illustrations of paper-products nicely arranged around it, including also a picture of a rag-and-bone man, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>m. RUNDVEE</B>. With a large view of cows in the field in centre and numerous illustrations arranged around it, showing the keeping and products of cattle, like a cow-stable, cow-milking, the churning and creaming of milk, a cheese-press, a butcher, as well as various products of cattle bone and leather, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand.<B>n. RUST, BEWEGING, KRACHT EN WERKTUIG</B>. With numerous illustrations on motion and technical devices, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>o.SCHRIJNWERKER, DE-</B>. With a large view of a cabinet maker's shop in centre and numerous illustrations of his tools and instruments, nicely arranged round the central view, all with titles underneath and all finely coloured by hand. <B>p. VARKEN EN HET SCHAAP, HET-</B>. Depicting a wide variety of products supplied by pigs and by sheep, nicely arranged around 2 central scenes of pigs and of sheep in the field, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>q. VERLICHTING EN VERWARMING</B>. With a large central view of a landscape with resin trees, a sulphur-lake, a volcano and a coal-mine, surrounded by numerous illustrations of the processing of products and means of lightning and heating, including a charcoal-burner, a gas-factory, a light-house, as well as stoves, lamps, etc., all with titles underneath and all nicely coloured by hand. <B>r. VERVOERMIDDELEN</B>. Depicting a wide variety of means of transport, like steam ships, railway trains with steam engines, barges pulled by horse, coaches for mail, passengers and for pleasure, a dog-cart, but also an elephant and a camel, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>s. VIJF ZINNEN, DE</B>-. Depicting the five senses, nicely arranged in 5 groups, illustrating the meaning of seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling and tasting, all with titles underneath and beautifully coloured by hand. <B>t. IJZER, HET-</B>. With a large central view of an iron-foundry, surrounded by numerous illustrations of ironworks, an iron-mine, a forge, and the various tools and products made of iron, including an iron door of a prisoner's cell, bird's and lion's cages, a knight's armour and a train's engine, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>u. ZOUT EN SUIKER</B>. With illustrations on the winning and use of salt and sugar, with two large illustrations in centre showing salt-works and a sugar-refinery, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. <B>v. ZIJDE EN KATOEN</B>. Depicting the manufacture of silk and cotton, including their end-products, with views of the culture of the silk-worm in France and of the cotton plantations in America, the processing of silk, cotton spinning and weaving, the various sorts of cloth, etc, all with titles underneath and all beautifully coloured by hand. Size of each print is ca. 30 x 45 cm.
