BERNARDUS CLARAEVALLENSIS (1090-1153). Opuscula divi Bernardi abbatis Clarevallensis. (Venezia, Giacomo Penzio für Lucantonio Giunta il Vecchio, 1. Juni 1503).
"The Annunciation recalls the image used in the editions of the Meditations printed in Rome by Stephan Plannck. The overall composition of the cut, its three architectural columns, the ornamental designs on the kneeler, and the floor pattern are similar in both woodcuts. However, in the 1501 design, the perspective, the complexity of the interior ornamentation, and the modeling of the figures is more highly developed than in the cut used by Plannck. The shading alone varies in the thickness and direction of the parallel lines, which give greater dimensionality to the physical forms and a better sense of perspective in the interior view. This detailed shading technique results in a sensitive rendering of the story of the Annunciation and reflects an important characteristic of Italian Renaissance style that emerged in the late 1490s" (Daniel De Simone). - Zwei Textbll. Camerini I, 74; Panzer VIII, 365, 217; Essling 1383; Sander 961; Hind 465-471; STC, (Italian), 87; Olschki, Choix de livres IV, 4132; vgl. De Simone, A Heavenly Craft. The Woodcut in Early Printed Books (2004), Nr. 39. First Giunta edition of the works of Bernard of Clairvaux, printed and edited by Lucas Antonius de Giunta (1457-1538), the founder of the dynasty. The full-page woodcut had appeared first as frontispiece in Giunta's missal of 1501. 'The Annunciation' recalls "the image used in the editions of the Meditations printed in Rome by Stephan Plannck. The overall composition of the cut, its three architectural columns, the ornamental designs on the kneeler, and the floor pattern are similar in both woodcuts. De Simone). Giunta published about four hundred prints up to 1538. He had used the woodcut of the Annunciation to Mary - which recalls the image used in the editions of the Meditations printed at Rome by Stephan Planck - previously in his print of the Missale Romanum from November 20, 1501. - Notes by a later hand on first fly-leaf, three stamps on title, few wormholes at the beginning, three stamps; an excellent copy in its first binding. - Contemporary half pigskin over wooden boards, back on three raised bands (clasps gone).

M.K. Dhavalikar Illustrator: NA: The Aryans: Myth and Archaeology, Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd. 2007 ISBN: 9788121511698

Fine Hardcover 16 x 24 cm. Book: The Aryans: Myth And Archaeology The Aryan problem is probably the most controversial in human history. Numerous scholars have attempted to trace the homeland of Vedic Aryans but no solutions is in sight in spite of the vast mass of literature. However, archaeological evidence of great significance has recently become available which throws a flood of light on the problem as it corroborates to a considerable extent the literary testimony and is even supported by that of the human skeletal biology. It has therefore become possible to locate the original homeland of the Aryan, the period of their migrations, the data of the composition of Rgveda, the flowering of the Vedic culture and finally their diaspora in different directions, not only in India but beyond its frontiers. The study thus represents a unique blend of the archaeological, literary and anthropological evidence. About Author : M.K. Dhavalikar was formerly Professor of Archaeology and Director, Deccan College Post-Graduate Research Institute, Pune. He has carried out several excavations in different parts of the country and his publications include: Cultural Imperialism: Indus Civilization in Western India (1994), Indian Protohistory (1997), Historical Archaeology of India (1999), Environment and Culture: A Historical Perspective (2002), and Encyclopaedia of Indian Archaeology, Vol. III (in press), besides excavation reports. Dammel, Anthe / Sebastian Kürschner, Damaris Nübling (Hg.): Kontrastive Germanistische Linguistik. 2 Bände. Hildesheim Olms Vlg. 2010.
The essays in these volumes take a decidedly contrastive perspective on German and give particular emphasis to the comparison mainly of German with other Germanic languages, especially the less frequently studied smaller languages such as Yiddish, Luxembourgish, Friesian, Afrikaans, Faroese and Icelandic. This creates a broad thematic palette of research findings. Volume 1 contains studies on phonology, syntax, textual linguistics, lexicology and pragmatics. Volume 2 is concerned with all aspects of morphology: as well as nominal and verbal flexion there are contributions on word-formation, usually the topic least frequently examined in a contrastive sense, and on composition, epenthesis and affixoids. There is a special emphasis on the diachronic perspective, which makes clear the respective changes of course in the history of the Germanic languages. This helps to revise some of the overgeneralisations which have been based on the narrow perspective of a single language.
