Pyddoke, Edward: Stratification for the Archaeologist. London : Phoenix-House, 1961.
Zustand: leichte Gebrauchsspuren, Einband/Schutzumschlag gering berieben, gutes Exemplar. Text / Sprache : Englisch / by Edward Pyddoke. With a frontispiece, 8 pages of plates and 18 ill. in text , This is an important addition to the series of archaeological textbooks which Phoenix has pubfished in recent years. The subject on this occasion is stratification', using the word to lay stress on the difference between this, the making of strata, and stratigraphy or the drawing or description of strata. In brief this book is about the relation of recent geological and geographical processes to archaeological finds and the reaction of living organisms upon strata in which archaeological finds may be made. There are books and reports from which a beginner in archaeology can learn something concerning the identification of antiquities. There are others which deal with the details of strata at some particular site; but there appears to be no publication which will introduce the archaeologist to the great variety of deposits in which antiquities are discovered or to the processes which lead to their becoming buried and preserved. This book is an attempt to provide such an introduction, and my hope is that it may stimulate an interest in and a fuller study of the many factors and processes which combine in the formation of strata. -
