Complete in 12 volumes, with two sets of supplements (one two-volume, the other one-volume), for a total of 15 volumes. Dictionary is bound in brown hard cover with gold gilt lettering to spine. Volumes are all VG +, with some minor dust soiling to the bottom page edges. Dust jackets are variously chipped, soiled, and waterdamaged (waterdamage has not affected the volumes themselves). The one-volume supplement is from 1975, the two-volume from 1976. Neither supplement has dust jackets. The upper corner of the back cover of the 1975 supplement is frayed and bumped. The BCA reprint of the Second Edition of the Comact OED. Heavyweight edition, containing the whole text, unaltered of the twelve-volume first edition and also the complete text of the four-volume supplement publlished between 1972-86 - the two parts having been amalgamated into a continuous seamless text. The aim of the dictionary is to present in alphabetical series the words that have formed the English vocabulary from the times of the earliest records down to the present day, with all the relevant facts, concerning their form, sense-history, pronuciation and entymology. The book is unread, and bound in navy cloth with gilt lettering to spine and is presented in a slipcase which shows signs of slightest storage. The set also includes a separate box which contains a booklet entitled 'A User's Guide to the Oxford English Dictionary' and a strong magnifying glass which has a battery-operated light.
