Verkauft wird ein Konvolut von ca. 30 Büchern zu London und zur Themse. Alle Bücher in sind in englischer Sprache. Der Bestand entstammt dem Nachlass eines leidenschaftlichen Sammlers. Er kaufte die Titel teils in Antiquariaten: Diese Bücher sind ergo teils gebraucht und deshalb mit den üblichen Spuren versehen: Z.B. berieben, lichtrandig, Besitzervermerk, mit Buchhandelsaufklebern, fleckig o.ä. Teils erwarb er die Bücher auch neu oder preisreduziert, diese sind denn schön erhalten und wirkt ungelesen. Gravierende Mängel wie z.B. Anstreichungen sind unten angegeben. Die meisten Bücher des Konvoluts sind fest gebunden, teils sind sie aber auch kartoniert. Die Bücher sind staubig. Ricards wissenschaftliche sozialhistorische Studie gewährt einen quellengesättigten und faszinierenden Einblick in das Leben in der Metropole um 1660-1670. Mayhew und sein Werk über die Londoner Unterschicht ist für die Sozialgeschichtsschreibung der Welt so bedeutsam, daß hier nur kurz auf die beiden Reprints hingewiesen sei. Zur Themse sind viele Titel im Konvolut enthalten, die viel gutes neues und altes Bildmaterial enthalten. Die aufregendsten Fotos bringt jedoch Stamp in "The changing metropolis", nämlich solche, die zwischen 1839 und 1879 aufgenommen wurden. Als Urheber finden sich so berühmte Namen wie Fox Talbot oder Roger Fenton, die Motive lassen eine lang vergangene und dem deutschen Kulturfreund viuell zumeist wohl eher wenig bekannte Ära wiederaufleben. Contemporary green half morocco, spines in 6 compartments with gilt ornaments. Günther (1830-1914), the German-born ichthyologist, was also an eminent herpetologist. As keeper of the zoological collections of the British Museum, London, he published many standard-works as well on fishes as on amphibians and reptiles, which were reprinted several times. The above work has been issued to the subscribers to the "Ray Society" for the year 1863.
