Contemporary green boards, red spine with green gilt lettered label and gilt lines (text) & recent red half morocco, spines with green gilt lettered label and gilt lines, old marbled boards (atlases), all uniformly bound. First and only edition. According to Dr. W. Junk the above work is one of the most attractive German flower-books. "Vorliegende 'Sammlung' nun ist sicher eins der schönsten deutschen Bücher auf ihrem Gebiete geworden" (Junk, Rara p. 44). The work is a great rarity and a portrayal of the most attractive exotics growing in the Bonn botanic garden, of which Nees von Esenbeck was the director and Sinning the head gardener. The plates include a bouquet of Georgina variabilis, bouquet of Aster Chinensis (tied with a ribbon), Magnolia discolor, Magnolia pumila, two plates of Hibiscus, Primula praenitens, Papaver bracteatum, Agapanthus and five Camellia plates, three with two flowers on one plate; Camellia Japonica and var expansa (red); single and double white Camellia; Paeoniflora and Atrorubens. Two single plates, Anemoniflora (dark red), Pomponia (white). The plates are by Henry, Hohe and Wild. The work is always prone to some foxing, which is the case to a small number of plates.
