Zasius, Ulrich. Responsorum Iuris [Juris] Sive Consiliorum... Liber primus, Summariis. 1548
Zasius, Ulrich [1461-1535]. [Responsorum Iuris (Juris) Sive Consiliorum]. Lyons: Apud Sennetonios Fratres [Senneton Freres], 1548. 4 volumes in 1 book, each with title page and individual pagination. Main text printed in double columns. Final leaf, a blank, lacking. Folio (16" x 11"). Recent quarter morocco over cloth, raised bands to spine, endpapers renewed. Negligible shelfwear, partial crack between first title page and following leaf. Title pages with ornate architectural borders and large Senneton salamander devices printed in red and black, first leaf has attractive portrait woodcut (after Holbein), woodcut decorated initials throughout. Early owner signature and small later institution stamp to first title page, faint dampstaining to fore-edges of a few leaves, negligible light foxing in a few places, interior otherwise fresh. An appealing copy of a scarce title. * Third edition. Complete in itself, this four-part volume is from the first collected works edition of Zasius, a leading German humanist who was among the first to apply modern philological methods to the study of Roman law. Known colloquially as Responsorum Juris Sive Consiliorum, this volume is a collection of treatises on specific points in Roman law dealing with disputed issues. Other sections are commentaries on sections of the Digest and the other components of the Corpus Juris Civilis. KVK locates 6 copies of this edition, 12 of all editions. Not in Adams or the British Museum Catalogue. Stintzing, Ulrich Zasius: Ein Beitrag zur Geschichte der Rechtswissenschaft in Zeitalter der Reformation 353.
