With woodcut frontispiece of an astronomer, woodcut depiction on title-page of Ptolemy, 7 woodcut illustrations in text, arithmetical tables, occasional woodcut headpieces or initials. Two neat repairs to reverse (blank) side of frontispiece (invisible on image-side), browning and foxing, the odd minor stain, margins sometimes cut close, a good copy, bound in recent tan calf gilt. All edges red. Work in an ephemeral literary category of "perpetual prognostications offering advice and rules of divination" (Capp), popular throughout the Renaissance, with guidance on astrology, health and the weather, as well as useful information such as templates for business letters and tables of interest. On the 15th day of the Moon, the manual advises, "Do no Work, begin no Work, for it is a grievous Day. A sick Man shall long travail, but he shall escape: A Dream that thou seest, nothing shall annoy, but come to good Event: A Child born shall die young; that is lost shall be found. To let Blood is good" (p. 15).
