Gestel-Van het Schip, Maps in Books of Russia and Poland 15 (3 copies of different edition).</I>Rare edition of the first French translation of this description of Livonia, with an account of the origin and decay of the Teutonic order by Karl Johann von Blomberg, a descendant from an old Latvian family. The original English edition appeared in 1701. The work is written in the form of 17 letters, describing almost every historical and political event that has occurred in the Baltic States and Moscovia from ca. 1550 until 1698. Blomberg was sent to the European capitals on behalf of the Duchess of Livonia to announce the death of her husband Duke Frederic Cazimir. In The Hague Blomberg met the British King William II, who appointed him as his equerry on London. A very good copy.
