Two rare first folio's in one volume, Book 9 in first edition, and Book 10 in second edition. Book 9 is no longer translated by Nicolas de Herberay, as he had died. An unsuccessful translation by Giles Boileau seems to have been published by Vincent Sertenas in 1551, the British Museum recording a copy of that date, but it was withdrawn from the market and no other copies are known, so the present revised and corrected translation by Claude Colet is generally considered to be the first folio edition of Book 9. The motto of Colet on title reads: "Nec Sorte Nec Morte". Book 10 was translated by Jacques Gohory, who also translated Book 11. His motto on title of Book 10 reads: "Envie d'Envie en Vie". First published by Groulleau in 1552, Book 10 is here in second edition, in the Groulleau issue, with his thistle device on title. Both Books are richly illustrated with an ever growing number of newly added woodcuts of various sizes. The side borders of the larger woodcuts no longer are composed from conjoining parts of the borders of the smaller woodcuts, but have their own long side parts. In both Books woodcut initials from Janot's white alphabet, designed by his "F" artist, are used.
