The BCA reprint of the Second Edition of the Comact OED. Heavyweight edition, containing the whole text, unaltered of the twelve-volume first edition and also the complete text of the four-volume supplement publlished between 1972-86 - the two parts having been amalgamated into a continuous seamless text. The aim of the dictionary is to present in alphabetical series the words that have formed the English vocabulary from the times of the earliest records down to the present day, with all the relevant facts, concerning their form, sense-history, pronuciation and entymology. The book is unread, and bound in navy cloth with gilt lettering to spine and is presented in a slipcase which shows signs of slightest storage. The set also includes a separate box which contains a booklet entitled 'A User's Guide to the Oxford English Dictionary' and a strong magnifying glass which has a battery-operated light. Slipcase in VG+ to NF/ and Books are Near Fine to fine condtion. only a bit of shelfwear, o/w new! The supplementary volume is 1987 and in new condition. all have bright silver titles on the spine strips.

Bound in blue cloth-covered boards with metallic-silver titles and the seal of Oxford stamped on the spine. There is a light smudge on bottom edges of Vol. II (not a remainder mark). All 3 volumes are housed in the heavy publisher's slip case with the small drawer at the top containing the original gilt-edged rectangular magnifying glass. Except as noted, both the volumes and the slip case are Fine. Scarce to find all 3 volumes of this edition with the original slip case and magnifying glass. PLEASE ASK ABOUT POSTAGE AS THIS SET WEIGHS 27 LBS.
