Eric,Klemm: Silent Warriors Portraits of North American Indians, Steidl Gerhard Verlag, Dezember 2008 ISBN: 386521701X
More than 100 years after Edward Curtis began Great Warriors, his seminal ethnographic study of North American Indians, German-born, Vancouver-based Eric Klemm continues the project, in homage to Curtis, by photographing as many members of the devastated tribes of North American Indians as he can find. In the images compiled in this volume, we might see Klemm's subjects in Sean Jean T-shirts and jean jackets, carrying antlers or wearing a headdress, beads and face paint. One young man sports a mohawk and a Beatles T-shirt. The diversity reveals the struggle faced by a people who have refused to give up their culture even as it has been increasingly marginalized. Born in 1939, Eric Klemm was affiliated early on with the legendary German youth magazine Twen and contributed in the 70s to Stern, Zeit Magazin and German Playboy,

First edition. 4to. Pictorial boards. Decorative pictorial hardcover in New Mexican Indian motif in turqoise, sienna and beige, pictorial dustjacket. 230 pp., heavily illustrated. ISBN: 0525455140. A peerless compendium of prose, poetry, painting, photography, and archival material, this anthology chronicles more than 500 years of one of North America's oldest and most enduring native cultures. In first-person reminiscences and historical narration stretching from the 16th century to today, more than 100 writers-from N. Scott Momaday, Leslie Marmon Silko, and Simon J. Ortiz to Frank Waters, Tony Hillerman, and Willa Cather-lend their unique perspectives with tales and narratives derived from traditional and contemporary sources. Rare photogravures by Edward S. Curtis, some never before published, provide unforgettable portraits of Pueblo men, women and children. Paintings by artists ranging from Helen Hardin and Tonita Pena to little-known students from the 1920s feature archetypal figures and symbols, capturing ritual and place, while vibrant works from the Tewa children of today portray the energy and fierce emotions of youth caught between two worlds. Fine in fine dustjacket, protected with mylar cover. [b93] First Edition New Pictorial Boards 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall
