Hardcover Good+ with no dust jacket Edition: 1st Edition Thus; 1st Printing B&W Illustrations; Variant binding with black lettering to spine of book. Spine ends & corners of book covers have some bumping, rubbing & edge wear. Green paper covered boards have white and black lettering to front cover and black lettering to spine of book. Front cover of book has four or five spots of brownish discoloration which actually looks like spots of chocolate along with several spots of rubbing and some lightish scratching. Spine ends and corners of book cover have rubbing, edge wear and beginning tearing. There is noticeable rubbing to both front and rear spine joints. Rear cover of book has noticeable scratching. Text pages generally clean & bright -- except for page #7 where an enterprising youth has added several bits of blue ink shading to Maurice Sendak's wonderful illustrations. (Luckily, this artist gave up his embellishments after this page -- there are no other pages so marked). Endpapers are a solid lightish green color. "Long ago a little boy called Jack lived with his uncle and his aunt and a big dog (who used to chase rabbits) in a house among the fields. Jack's father and mother were dead, and the uncle and aunt were not very nice to him. What Jack didn't at all like was when the uncle and aunt took him for nice long walks in the fields instead of letting him go out alone with the dog." This book is part of the Modern Masters Book for Children series. Hanrahan A50.
