The Ingoldsby Legends are a collection of myths, legends, ghost stories and poetry written by Thomas Ingoldsby, which is the pen-name of Richard Harris Barham, an English novelist and humorist poet. The legends were first printed in 1837 as a regular series in Bentley's Miscellany and later in New Monthly Magazine. The legends were illustrated by John Leech and George Cruikshank. This edition was specially leather-bound and presented to a student in the Fourth Form at Katharine Lady Berkeley's Grammer School of Wotton-Under-Edge in 1895 as a prize for English literature.
