*Lauren Bacall (*1924), American film actress. She became a student at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and made her stage debut 1942. She also worked as a model. Seen on the cover of "Harper's Bazar", she was signd to a contract by director Howard Hawks. Husky-voised and with a feline grace, she appeard as tough, sophisticated and cynical as her co-star Humphrey Bogart, whom she married in 1945. They co-starred in thuch thrillers as "The Big Sleep", "Dark Passage" and "Key Largo". After Bogart's death in 1957, she turned increasingly to the theatre, enjoying Brodway succsesses in "Goodbye Charlie", "The Cactus Flower" or "Women of the Year".
