Elledge, C. D.: Life after Death in Early Judaism. The Evidence of Josephus. (Wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen zum Neuen Testament 208). Tübingen: Mohr Siebeck 2006.
The historian Flavius Josephus remains crucial for understanding numerous problems central to the study of Judaism and Christian origins. C.D. Elledge's book provides a comprehensive analysis of what Josephus reveals about Jewish hope in life after death, including such crucial passages of Josephus' works as his portrayal of Abraham, the Essenes, Pharisees, Sadducees, and Eleazar ben Jair. When viewed as a recurrent motif throughout his writings, Josephus uses life after death as a device that offers apologetical praise of Judaism to outsiders, addresses the problem of theodicy, and reinforces the moral ideals of his presentation of history.

Pucci Ben Zeev, Miriam: Jewish Rights in the Roman World. The Greek and Roman Documents Quoted by Josephus Flavius. (Texts and Studies in Ancient Judaism 74). Tübingen: Mohr Siebeck 1998.
The authors of the essays collected in this volume are concerned with the Jewish transmission and use of Greek translations of the biblical books from Late Antiquity to the early modern period. The volume represents the first attempt to bring together contributions from specialists in a variety of areas, including not only biblical and Jewish studies but also such disciplines as epigraphy and Byzantine history and literature, to investigate the implications of this newly-discovered subject. The essays address some of the ways in which Greek-speaking Jews kept alive a tradition of Greek biblical scholarship going back to ancient times, and how this tradition impinged on Christian biblical scholarship. With contributions by:James Aitken, Philip Alexander, Patrick Andrist, Silvia Cappelletti, Dries De Crom, Saskia Dönitz, Natalio Fernandez Marcos, William Horbury, David Jacoby, T. PUMMER, Reinhard: The Samaritans in Flavius Josephus. Tübingen: Mohr Siebeck 2009.
The aim of this study is to ascertain the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus' (first century C.E.) stance towards the Samaritans in the light of the new developments in Josephan and Samaritan studies as well as recent archaeological excavations. Although Josephus used a variety of sources in writing his Jewish War and Jewish Antiquities, he was no mere compiler but a creative historian whose narratives about the Samaritans express his personal view about their character, origin and religious faith. The book is thus not a history of early Samaritanism but an investigation into the attitude towards the Samaritans of one of the most eloquent representatives of first-century C.E. Judaism.
