English Description: 87pp. Loving tribute to the Austrian-born artist, poet and playwright Oskar Kokoschka (1886-1980), tracing the first 40 years of his artistic development. Part of a limited edition of 2,000, this is 1 of only 200 specially bound numbered copies, with lithographs signed by the artist. Edited by James Plaut, director of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, with a charming introductory letter by Kokoschka. 48 plates in photogravure, eight plates in colour, four drawings and two original tissue-guarded lithographs signed by Kokoschka. Plus B&W photo of the great man. Kokoschka was one of the artists shown at the Exhibition of Degenerate Art in Munich in 1937 and despised by the Nazis. Internally very good. Owner"s names in pen to ffep, library stamp and barcode sticker. Wrapper has major tears and some loss to front, rear and spine; repaired with Sellotape.
