The work tells us of a dead whale that drifted ashore in the port of Ostende in 1827. The huge whale was skinned and the skeleton was taken apart and the separate bones were studied by Dubar, a surgeon who lived at Ostende. After this general account, a detailed osteological description of the large bones of the whale is given, illustrated by 13 beautifully designed and detailed lithographed plates. Beautiful copy, some plates slightly foxed.
