Green cover with black print. Rare first meeting minutes of the United Daughters of the Confederacy of West Virginia Held in Sheperdstown, W.VA 1898. This five page booklet is the minutes for the organizational meeting to found the State Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy for the West Virginia Division. This convention was attended by three of the four chapters: Charleston Chapter 151 was not represented, Huntington Chapter 150 attended, Leetown Chapter 231 attended as did Shepherdstown Chapter 128.Dr. Charles Ghiselin , President of Shepherd College, was the host for the convention held in Shepherdstown.State officers were elected and articles for a Constitution and Bylaws adopted. A list of the officers elected for the new State Division is included. Mary Clarkson Langley was elected President. Mention is also made of the work of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in caring for the needy Confederate soldiers and the orphans of soldiers.This is a rare copy of this important document establishing this West Virginia Division of the UDC. ; 8vo; 5 pages.
