New York & London: Harcourt Brace and Jovanovich. 1978 First edition. Tall quarto. Pictorial cloth. Edges are faintly tanned with a trace of soiling. Top edge has a trace of soiling. Lower edges are a bit scuffed. Head has a short faint crease else near fine in dustjacket with a trace of wear to the extremities else fine. This copy includes an original inscribed two page pen and ink drawing by Peter Beard on the front pastedown and free end paper. Rendered in humourous cartoon style and captioned in Beard's hand, the inscription runs along the foredge and around upside down to the top edge of the front free end paper. The inscription reads "Warm regards and Salaams, Peter (Beard) February 1st, 1984". A very nice and unique copy of this collection of Kamante's illustrated stories which is laced throughout with a collection of photographs and captions by Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen) taken between 1914 and 1931.
