Sixteenth Impression. Bound in Maroon leather which is only showing signs of age/rubbing on the tops and bottoms of the spine, otherwise the leather is in remarkably good condition. Inside beautifull bright marbled endpapers. All text pages are clean and bright without any marking of any kind, hand cut pages, gilt top edge. Service (1874-1958) was working in a bank when he published his most famous collection, Songs of a Sourdough. With 1909's 'Ballads of a Cheechako' he has achieved a long-term ambition - financial independence. He was seen as a people's poet and his work achieved great popularity in the First World War, as this edition testifies. "The only society I like," he once said, "is that which is rough and tough - and the tougher the better. That's where you get down to bedrock and meet human people."
