Front and rear e.p. torn- pages 407-10 loose, pg 635 , 1 inch by 2 inch chip to edge, not interfering with illustration. Most of tissue guards have creasing and spotting. The front and rear e.p.'s are torn, very pale water stains to front and rear paste downs and e.p.'s., mild to about 50 pages rear of book, meaning a very mild damp line. Rear board paper had wrinkling from dampness. Various nics, small chips and small closed edge tears. Text is good readable font and print, illustrations and engravings very good. Tightly bound. First edition Three quarter morocco, four bands to spine, gilt title, date, and prior owners name to spine, well rubbed marbled boards. Lady's Friend was a 19th century woman's periodical in keeping with Godey's Magazines of fashion, literature, music, novelties, and "Editor's Departmment. Sara Webb (the editior) was the wife of Henry Peterson, Editor of the Saturday Evening Post from 1843-73. Lady's Friend had a limited publishing period of 10 year, 1864-74. This first edition contains: Twelve two page Les Modes Parisians Hand colored Lithographs; with 1 page full color charming illustration entitled "Work Table Company," front and rear of mannequin dressed with sewing materials and tools.
