[WILLIAMS (Philip)]: Some Observations Addressed to the Author of the Letter to Dr. Waterland, &c. In which, from his own Words and Reasoning against the Author of Christianity as old as the Creation, it is plainly proved, that his letter, Defence and Remarks ought all to be Burned, and the Author of them banished. For J. Roberts, London. 1733.
Small 8vo. 1 f., 46 pp., new marbled boards, black morocco label on spine title in gilt. The Author of the letter to Dr. Waterland was Conyers Middleton, and the author of Christianity as old as the Creation (1730) was Matthew Tindal, who called himself a Christian Deist. Waterland had attacked Tindal's work, which marked the culmination of the deist controversy. Middleton's pamphlet urges that apologists placed themselves in a false position by endeavouring to maintain the historical accuracy of everything in the Bible. Williams, the author of the present pamphlet, declared that Middleton should be banished and his works burned unless he made recantation.
